Fatal Accident on Route 7 Eastbound

The Leesburg Police Department is investigating a car crash that left one man dead. Shortly after 12:30 p.m., a 9-1-1 caller reported a motor vehicle crash with injuries in the eastbound lanes of Harry Byrd Highway just past Children’s Center Road. When police arrived they identified two cars involved in the crash, a red BMW and a white Ford Focus.

The preliminary investigation revealed that both vehicles were traveling eastbound on Harry Byrd Highway when the BMW crashed into the rear of the Ford Focus. The impact caused the Ford Focus to leave the roadway and overturn.

Both drivers were transported to Reston Hospital Center. The driver of the Ford Focus was identified as Rush Hone Elmore, 69, of Herndon Virginia, who sustained life-threatening injuries and later died at the hospital. The driver of the BMW is currently in stable condition.

The Leesburg Police Traffic Management Unit in conjunction with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit are still investigating the circumstances that led to the crash.
